What can users do now that Microsoft has announced its end of support for mobile data entry (MDE) scanner software in 2020? Urs Marti, CEO of the Zurich-based e-commerce app provider ieffects, has the solution. In fact, he whipped it right out of his pocket during his presentation at the National Industry Day. An event organized by Swissavant – the industry association for tradespeople and makers of household goods – that took place on April 1st in Zurich Switzerland. So, what was in his pocket? The prototype version of the nexMart scanner app on his smartphone.
ieffects had developed the app for nexMart Schweiz AG, an e-business service provider for tradespeople and companies in the ironmongery and household goods sectors. The participants at the event, mostly dealers and suppliers who are members of Swissavant, were over the moon when they saw the demo version of nexMarts’ scanner and e-commerce app. They were totally convinced by its ease of use: all users need to do is scan an article with an ordinary scanner or with their smartphone – and they can order the item on the spot or later. That’s because the app works offline just as well as online. It’s also really fast and users always have it to hand, wherever they are. A big benefit is that they no longer need to invest in expensive specialized scanners and their maintenance. At the end of the event, all the participants were agreed on one thing: as members of Swissavant, they want an industry-wide, common solution. One that’s future-oriented, extendable and an omni-channel product that can be integrated into their existing systems and infrastructures.
“The scanner app is a trend-setting solution that makes our members’ everyday work much easier and can give them a significant competitive edge,” says Andreas Müller, President of Swissavant. The association sees itself as an innovative industry organization that provides modern solutions to its more than 1000 members. With the nexMart app from ieffects, Swissavant can offer dealers and suppliers a professional solution that provides continuity from 2020 onwards, once Microsoft stops software support for nexMart’s MDE devices.
